i thought i'd share ...
i love these images...
these are the poorest of the poor women in Pakistan's most rural areas - which again were hit by the floods....they have lost homes, are living in shelters/camps...and still retain their individuality - colorful patterns, bracelets, bold colors.
these women are the one's make their 'houshold' work, they are the breadwinners while their husbands (obviously on drugs, gamble, etc...and yes not all..but most) don't contribute socially or financially.
and we, in the western world, call these women oppressed. they are stronger than us women in the west could ever be...they carry the burden of us all...and in style, nonetheless! they are proud of themselves, confident in themselves, and believe in their own power to make a difference for themselves and their families....and we, in the west, we complain, we get depressed, we see therapists...because we think the world is so hard on us and life is difficult and oh so unfair.
i think, we, in the west are oppressed.
these images reminded me today that...we are so weak. look at these women...they are 'owning' themselves, taking ownership of their lives, their personalities....and hardship or not, they're confident in their femininity, in themselves.
these women don't need to realize their potential.
these women don't need to reaffirm their femininity and strength.
these women don't need to explore their personalities.
these women don't need to take ownership of their own lives.
we, women in the West, DO need to realize our potential...
need to reaffirm our femininity and strength...
need to explore our personalities...
need to take ownership of our own lives...
these women don't need to be saved from self oppression.
we, women in the West, need saving from self oppression.
while we complain about relationships, friends, are caught in a material war with each other...
these women are fighting the world and doing it in style - !!
